suddenly the dull camouflage beige-brown and green Blitz trucks rolled into the village not far from the Polish border. Commanders rode ahead and behind in military cars. Moments later, troops jumped from the back and took up positions throughout the village. Soon the Jews would be herded, dragged, and pulled onto those trucks to be transported to their destiny with the Nazi war machine. Some were destined for bitter labor. Some were destined for a bitter ghetto. For too many, their destiny was a terrible extermination.
